Obituary: Hayoung "Patrick" Kim

Hayoung “Patrick” Kim, age 63, of Shelton entered into rest on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Griffin Hospital. He was the devoted husband of 38 years to Youngmi Kim.

Hayoung was born in the Jung District of Seoul, South Korea, son of the late Deukho Kim and Insook Heo. In his youth, Hayoung was an excellent speedskater and soccer player.

He graduated at the top of his class from Yonsei University in South Korea. He then came to America and went on to receive his PhD in Physics from Polytechnic University (NYU). He worked as a Software Developer for many years, spanning many different industries. Early in his career, he continued his studies and obtained his Master of Science in Finance at Baruch College. Hayoung loved all things science and math, and during his career he published several scientific papers, most recently co-authoring “Data Mining Strategies for Real-Time Control in New York City” in 2014.

At home, Hayoung found value in doing things himself (DIY projects) and always kept himself (and his sons) busy with side projects. He was a believer in doing things right, even if it took more time. Hayoung also loved dancing and playing classic guitar, often playing alongside a singing Youngmi. He was an avid photographer, an enthusiasm which he passed onto his son Skyler. Hayoung also knew his way around garments and fashion by way of his mother who was a Korean fashion designer.

Hayoung felt that sharing a meal was one of the best ways to spend time together as a family. He loved to cook for his family and friends and taught traditional Korean cooking techniques and recipes to his children. Most recently, it brought him great joy to introduce Korean cuisine and spend time sharing home cooked meals with his grandchildren.

Hayoung was the beloved father of Stefan Hyunwoo Kim and his wife Stephanie Ann Kim, Skyler Chanwoo Kim and Samuel Sunwoo Kim, loving grandfather of Joseph Charles Joon Kim and Peter Jacob Jin Kim, uncle of Sangho Kim and his wife Elizabeth Minjung Kim and great uncle of Elliot Yunghoon Kim and Aileen Kim. Hayoung was also loved by his many nieces, nephews, and in-laws in Korea.

On Saturday, February 22nd, friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. His funeral service will begin at 11:30 AM at the parlor. Hayoung’s burial will follow at Lawn Cemetery, 268 Huntington St., Shelton.

하영은 가족들과 함께 식사하며 시간을 보내는 것을 사랑과 가치를 표현하는 가장 중요한 방법으로 여겼습니다. 그는 가족과 친구들을 위해 요리하는 것을 좋아했으며, 자녀들에게 전통적인 한국 요리법을 가르치며 한국인으로서의 자부심과 정체성을 알게 했습니다. 최근까지도 자주 접하기 어려운 한국 요리를 가족들과 함께하며 큰 기쁨을 느꼈습니다.

그는 첫째 아들 현우와 그의 아내 스테파니, 둘째 아들 찬우, 셋째 아들 선우의 사랑하는 아버지였고, 김준, 김진의 자랑스러운 할아버지였습니다. 그는 또한 조카 김상호와 그의 아내 강민정의 이모부이자 김영훈, 김아린의 할아버지였습니다. 여러 조카와 조카 자녀들, 처형들, 그리고 형님들에게도 많은 사랑과 존경을 받았습니다.

2025년 2월 22일 토요일, 친구들은 오전 10시부터 11시 30분까지 Shelton의 Riverview Funeral Home(390 River Rd.)에서 조문할 수 있습니다. 장례식은 오전 11시 30분에 응접실에서 시작됩니다. 하영의 장례식은 Shelton의 Huntington St. 268에 위치한 Lawn Cemetery에서 거행됩니다.
