
Herbert H. Portnoy, age 90, of Milford entered into rest on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at The Jewish Home in Bridgeport.
He was born in Boston, MA on September 28, 1930, son of the late Samuel and Rose (Maltzman) Portnoy. Herbert was a graduate of Vesper George School of Art. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served from 1952-1954. He started his career as an Advertising Manager for Stop & Shop. Later, Herbert owned and operated Herbert H Portnoy Advertising Agency in Hamden, CT for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Milford Senior Center and Senior Arts Council of Milford and Woodbridge. Herbert was a member of B’nai B’rith. He volunteered for Meals On Wheels and volunteered at the New Haven Public Schools through the Agency on Aging. Herbert was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed listening to jazz music. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family.
He was the beloved father of Debra Knaub and her husband Ralph, Marsha Cilento and her husband John, Susan Falvey and her husband Edward and Allyson Portnoy and loving grandfather of Jacob, Alexander, Samantha, Gina, Sarah, Brendan and Joseph. He was also survived by two loving nephews and friends. Herbert was predeceased by a brother Edward Portnoy and a sister Mildred Markowitz.

Friends are invited to his funeral service on Friday at 12:30 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. His burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Shiva will be held at the home of Edward and Susan Falvey, 812 Hillcrest Rd., Orange on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 PM.
