Obituary: Joan Mary Quick

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Aunt

Joan Mary Quick, age 82, of Shelton entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Gardner Heights with her loving family by her side.

Joan was the beloved and devoted wife of 66 years to Edward Quick. She was born in Bridgeport on April 20, 1941, daughter of the late Stephan and Anna (Kurimsky) Buderer. She was a Shelton resident most of her adult life.

Joan was a devout Catholic, and before meeting her husband, Edward, she entered the novitiate, planning to become a nun. Her vocation changed to marriage, however, and she had four beautiful children: Timothy Edward, Kevin Andrew, Ann Marie, and Sean Patrick. Joan was a graduate of the Academy of the Holy Angels as well as a student at Sacred Heart University. Joan taught third grade for seven years before her children were born, and met many of her students later in life who remembered her as a favorite teacher. Joan was outgoing and kindhearted, making friends everywhere she went even until her last days.

Joan was an active parishioner of St. Lawrence, a member of the St. Lawrence’ Women’s Group, a member of the Carnival Committee, and a former religious education teacher. She supported America Needs Fatima and led and participated in Rosary Rallies at St. Lawrence. She passed on her beautiful faith to her children and grandchildren.

Joan was a gifted artist, and her paintings and sketches adorn her home. She had an artist’s eye and brought that touch to everything from her personal appearance to the interior decorating of her home.

Joan was the beloved mother of Tim and his wife Christine, Ann and her husband Shaun Wheeler, and Kevin and his wife Lorina; loving grandmother of Trace, Bryce, and Lila Quick; Ryan, Shaun, and Bailey Wheeler; and aunt of David Kulikowski.

She was predeceased by her son, Sean; her sister Maryann Kulikowski; and brother-in-law David Kulikowski.

Friends may call from 5-7 pm on Thursday, August 10, at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. On Friday, friends are invited to go directly to St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Avenue, Shelton for her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Her burial will follow at Mount St. Peter Cemetery.
