Obituary: John J. Marino, 89, Of Shelton

A former longtime Norwalk resident, John spent most of his career working as an accountant for Swank Inc. and as tax collector of Stamford.

John J. Marino, a resident of Shelton, CT and a former long-time resident of Norwalk passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022 surrounded by his loving daughters at Bridgeport Hospital at the age of 89.

Born on July 25, 1932 in Norwalk, he was the son of the late Frank and Theresa (Parlato) Marino. John was raised in Norwalk and was a graduate of Norwalk High School. John was a proud Army Veteran having served during the Korean War as a medic.

John spent a majority of his career working as an accountant for Swank Inc. as well as working as the Tax Collector of Stamford, CT. He rounded out his career prior to retirement working as an accountant for the Bridgeport Boys and Girls Club, and found much joy in connecting with the children and families of the community.

John spent many hours in his garden over the years, and always found joy in stopping to enjoy a good cigar and a scratch off at the days end. He was known for his quirky sense of humor and was always good for having a joke up his sleeve.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Marino-Bucnis and Gail Post and her husband, Lee both of Shelton, CT and five grandchildren, John Marino, Jesse Post, Heather Bennette, Dylan Post and Nicholas Bucnis, as well as two great-grandchildren Jackson and Sofia Marino. He is also survived by a longtime partner Barbara Davis as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Frances (Marino) Scarpone, brother-in-law Edward Scarpone and son-in-law, David Bucnis.

The family will receive friends at a Graveside Service and Burial at St. John’s Cemetery of Norwalk, on Thursday July 28, 2022 at 11 a.m.
