Obituary: Mildred Brenia Scholz

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt

Mildred Brenia Scholz, age 96, of Shelton entered into rest on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Gardner Heights with her loving granddaughter, Jessica Block, by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late William Ernest Scholz, Jr.

Mildred was born in Ansonia, on February 24, 1925, daughter of the late John and Bronislawa (Offchiss) Brenia and was an Ansonia resident for most of her life before moving to Shelton. She was a graduate of Ansonia High School. Mildred started her career as a telephone operator at the former Southern New England Telephone Company before becoming a service representative at AT&T until her retirement. She was an avid bridge and pinochle player and also enjoyed golfing and watching all sports, especially the N.Y. Yankees, N.Y. Giants and UCONN Basketball. Mildred loved gardening and was known for her delicious, home-grown tomatoes. She was active in the Burma Humanitarian Mission. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.

Mildred was the beloved mother of Patricia Block and William Scholz and sister of Nellie Heyse. She was the loving grandmother of 6 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mildred was predeceased by four brothers, Harry, Walter, Stephen and Joseph Brenia and four sisters, Mary Greski, Jay Middendorf, Olga Najjar and Anna Legeza.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 6 PM at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. Family and friends are required to wear masks. On Thursday, her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:15 AM for her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Assumption Church. Her burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Assumption Church, 61 N Cliff St., Ansonia CT 06401.
