Obituary: Philomena E. Ruta, 98, Of Shelton
Her greatest enjoyment was found in the time she spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Philomena "Phyllis" E. (DelVecchio) Ruta, age 98, of Shelton and formerly of Stratford passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Spring Village in Stratford. She was the beloved wife of the late John D. Ruta.
Born in New Brunswick, NJ on December 12, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Giancino and Maria (Sciarillo) DelVecchio. Phyllis worked at General Electric and Dresser Industries (Ashcroft). Phyllis married John Ruta in September of 1942 and lived in Bridgeport before moving to Stratford.

Phyllis loved to travel and also enjoyed ballroom dancing. She was an avid golfer and also enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Her greatest enjoyment however was found in the time she spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored.
She is survived by her loving children, son Johnes Ruta and daughter, June M. Chiodo and husband George. Grandchildren, Stefanii Atkins and husband Arthur; Jason Chiodo and wife Jennifer; Dawn Wulff and husband Ole; Jennifer Hammond and husband David. Eleven great grandchildren: Alexandra, Benjamin, Abigail, Benjamin, Hannah, Lucy, Miriam Rose, Sylvia, Marcus, Filomena and Susannah Marie. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Lee DelVecchio and nieces, Marie Renz and husband Craig, niece Doris DelVecchio. In addition to her husband John, she was predeceased by her DelVecchio brothers, Angelo, Joseph, Mario and Amadeo.

A Memorial Service will be announced and held at a later date. Entombment in the Chapel Mausoleum of St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford will be held privately for the immediate family.
