After graduating from high school, Renald attended The University of Get To Work with a full-ride scholarship, contingent on his success as a young man and Army soldier. In 1958, the family had settled in Bridgeport, Connecticut and Renald joined the United States Army. He served his country until his honorable discharge in November 1961. During his time in the Army, Renald was deployed to South Korea.

Upon his return home, Renald went to work for a company called Rolock, Inc. located in Fairfield, Connecticut. He worked as a development mechanic for over 30 years until his retirement. Renald's favorite activities were bowling, golf, and fishing. In his later years, he enjoyed long rides with his wife Suzette, gardening, and family picnics. He always loved a good party and never declined an invitation. Along with sports, and family gatherings, he was an avid hunter. It was how he was raised and lived his life accordingly. He would bring home his prized 9-point buck from one of his trips and show it off like a dog with a bone.
