Patch Candidate Profile: Ashley Simon, Derby Board Of Taxation

DERBY, CT — The 2023 municipal election is heating up in Derby and there are plenty of local races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.

Shelton-Derby Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as Election Day draws near.

Republican Ashley Simon, 35, is a Derby resident running for the Board of Taxation.

Education

My name is Ashley Simon and I am running for Board of Taxation. I have lived in Derby for five years although I was born and raised in Shelton CT but my family have roots in the Great City of Derby and have lived here a long time. I have worked in Banking Finance, and collections for over 16 year while I currently work at one of Connecticut’s Largest Credit Unions in the greater Hartford Area. Throughout my career I have demonstrated leadership skills while also being able to analyze financial data, and help my Communities that worked or served in. I think my experience and ability to interpret complex financial information and communicate in a clear concise manner will be invaluable in ensuring Transparency and accountability within the board.

What is your occupation?

Collections specialist at Credit Union.

Do you have a family? If so, please tell us about them.

Two children: son Evan Schwarzkopf, 11 years old, plays baseball - 4 year old, Kara, who is enjoys dancing and being a kid .

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?

None.

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?

No.

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?

Given my financial background and recent issues within the city I feel I have what it takes to help bring Derby back to prosperity.

Being transparent about finances in the town. I intend I will be dedicated and use my experience to uphold highest standards of Fiscal responsibility and accountability.

My 16 years of financial background / accounting.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Never give up - no matter how hard it is. Get up, keep giving it your all, and learn .

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I am really excited to be in office. My stockmal family grew up in the town of Derby and it is an honor to be running .
