Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?

No.

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?

No, first time running.

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?

I have been a resident of Derby for almost 50 years and love this city. Personally, with my children now being older, I feel I have the time to make the commitment needed to serve as a member of the board of aldermen/alderwomen. I believe through my professional and personal experiences I would be an asset to the city.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The single most pressing issue for me is that not all current Derby politicians are doing what's best for Derby and not treating the public respectfully. If elected, I intend to do my due diligence and educate myself on all topics that I will be involved with and make decisions based on what's best for Derby, regardless of what party is recommending. I promise to listen to, question, discuss, and debate issues with other board members and community members in a professional, respectful manner.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I can't speak about the other candidates, but I have lived and worked in Derby most of my life. Derby is my life!

If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?

I will not speak about another candidate, I can only promise to do what's best for Derby and treat everyone with respect.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

Having been a successful teacher for 28 years, department head for several years and coach for the past 30 years, I know I have the skills to handle this job. I have communicated with people of all ages throughout. These jobs have allowed my abilities to plan, prepare, interact, motivate, educate and inspire to grow more all the time.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Always do what's best for the students.
