RECALL ALERT: Trader Joe's Cashews May Be Contaminated With Salmonella
The cashews were distributed to Trader Joe's stores in Connecticut and may be contaminated with Salmonella.

If you’ve purchased raw cashews from Trader Joe’s recently, you’ll want to check the bag to make sure it is not contaminated.
Trader Joe’s announced on their website that Trader Joe’s Raw Cashew Pieces (barcode number 00505154) may be contaminated with Salmonella. The package has the following expiration code:
“BEST BEFORE 07.17.2016TF4”
The cashews were distributed to Trader Joe’s stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, Salmonella is estimated to cause one million food borne illnesses each year in the United States, with 19,000 hospitalizations and 380 deaths. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days.
The company has since removed the cashews from store shelves and sales have been suspended while they investigate. No illnesses have been reported.
