Republican House Leader Klarides Won't Seek Re-Election

Rep. Themis Klarides has been in the state legislature for 22 years.

DERBY, CT — House Republican leader Themis Klarides announced that she will not seek re-election after 22 years in the state legislature.

Klarides district covers parts of Derby, Woodbridge and Orange. The announcement follows that of State Senate Republican leader Len Fasano who also announced he wouldn't run for re-election. House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz (D-Berlin) also announced he wouldn't seek re-election.

"This is truly a citizen legislature and we are blessed to serve those that bestow their trust in us. I have tried to live up to those expectations every day for the last 22 years," Klarides said in a statement, which was published in the Valley Independent Sentinel.

Klarides told Hearst Connecticut that her time in public service wasn't over, but she didn't give specifics.

She is engaged to Eversource executive Greg Butler.
