The Derby-Shelton Rotary Club will deliver five-gallon buckets of a sand and salt mixture to seniors and disabled residents.
SHELTON-DERBY, CT — The Derby-Shelton Rotary Club will deliver five-gallon buckets of a sand and salt mixture to seniors over 67 years old and disabled residents in Derby and Shelton later this month.
Deliveries will take place between Nov. 30 and Dec. 3. The deadline to sign up is Nov. 14.
According to a news release provided by the Rotary Club, the program has helped families since 2008, and Derby-Shelton Rotary President Kim Ryan-Caro has heard many heart-warming stories of gratitude through the years.

Some people were afraid of getting the mail in the icy conditions before they had their rotary sand and salt. Others who had recently been on their own expressed what a big help it was to have the sand and salt delivered by community-minded rotarians, according to the club.
"Everyone appreciated this kindness," Ryan-Caro said in a news release.

Any senior who resides in a housing complex that already provides sand is not eligible for this program, as the goal is to help seniors over 67 and disabled individuals who really need help, according to the club.
Anyone eligible and interested in receiving a free sand and salt bucket can sign up at the Shelton or Derby Senior Center or contact Holmes-Hannon by phone at 203-650-2391 or email at linda_holmes-hannon@hilton.com. Subject lines of emails should say "sand and salt."
Anyone with buckets from a previous year's delivery is asked to contact Linda Holmes-Hannon and let her know.
