UPDATE: Shelton Woman, 69, Killed in Motor Vehicle Crash on Rt. 110

The accident occurred Friday afternoon, according to police.

Updated at 5:47 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016: A 69-year-old Shelton woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday on River Road (Route 110), according to Shelton police.

The New Haven Register reports that Rosemarie Dwyer, the driver of one of the cars, was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital following the 1:30 p.m. crash.

Fellow Shelton resident Samantha Monaco, 23, drove the other car and suffered serious injuries in the head-on collision. She is being treated in Bridgeport Hospital.

The crash occurred in front of the Sports Center of CT, and anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Shelton Police Traffic Division at 203-924-1544.

Original story: SHELTON, CT - The Shelton Police Department temporarily closed a portion of River Road (Route 110) Friday afternoon while officers investigate a serious motor vehicle accident.

Details of the crash were not immediately available.

"The Road will be closed between Murphy’s Lane and Long Hill Avenue while the investigation is conducted," said Det. Chris Nugent in a statement.
