SHELTON, CT — A candidate for Ward 3 in Shelton's Alderman race next month has begun paying the city more than $11,000 in back taxes he owes from his former bar that closed in 2017, reported the New Haven Register.

Chris Jones, listed as a Republican on the Envision Shelton website, made his first $500 payment to the city this week.

The delay in paying the back taxes was partially due to disagreements about past bills between him and his partners in the shuttered Bricks and Barley Tavern.

A legal settlement was reached between the partners, and Jones began paying the arrearage.

Though listed as a Republican, he was not endorsed by the Republican Town Committee, which reportedly paid for signs, which were placed around the city, that brought Jones tax situation to light for voters.
