“A crush of sightseers downtown is creating a hazard around the bear. I fear he may feel cornered and panic. He is in a high density area and there is no easy escape,” Shelton Trails and Conservation wrote on Facebook at around 6:45 p.m. “I’m asking people not to go looking for the bear downtown. The police are on the scene and I suspect they have called the DEEP.”
The Herald reports that many residents gathered to see the bear just before it was taken away by DEEP.
