Shelton Board Asks For Tax Increase For School Budget

A board is asking to raise the Board of Education budget slightly, but it would come with a tax increase.

SHELTON, CT — The Board of Apportionment and Taxation wants to give the school system a slightly bigger budget than what has been proposed.

The move would raise the Board of Education budget from $72.7 million to $73.1 million, according to the Connecticut Post.

Mayor Mark Lauretti's proposed budget would come with a 2.12 percent tax hike while the Apportionment and Taxation budget would come with a 3 percent raise.

Wages are set to increase between two and 2.5 percent for all city departments in the next year.
