Shelton Breast Surgeon Calls New Law for 2023 "Game Changer"
Fairfield County Medical Association's Dr. Lawrence Applauds New Law Requiring Coverage for Breast & Ovarian Cancer Susceptibility Screening

The Fairfield County Medical Association, headquartered in Shelton, applauds the implementation of “An Act Concerning Required Health Insurance Coverage for Breast and Ovarian Cancer Susceptibility Screening.”
“This new law is a game changer for many women in our state,” stated Camelia Lawrence, MD, FACS, President-Elect of the Fairfield County Medical Association.
Starting in January 2023, patients in Connecticut who may be at increased risk for breast or ovarian cancer will have, under certain commercial insurance policies, improved health insurance benefit coverage for diagnostic and screening services based on the patient’s age, medical, and family histories.

“Traditionally, insurers only cover screening mammograms and additional imaging needed went towards the patient’s deductible. Many women elected to forgo recommended additional diagnostic imaging because the cost was prohibitive leading to delay in diagnosis and treatment,” Dr. Lawrence added.
This is a real advantage for patients who may otherwise suffer the consequences of delayed cancer treatment. To learn more about CT Public Act No. 22-90 use this link: https://www.cga.ct.gov/2022/SUM/PDF/2022SUM00090-R02SB-00358-SUM.PDF
