Shelton And Derby Coronavirus Infections Rising Quickly

Coronavirus cases are skyrocketing in Connecticut. Here is how Derby and Shelton compare.

SHELTON & DERBY, CT — Coronavirus cases are increasing at a dramatic rate in Connecticut despite the lack of available testing. The state most recently reported a daily positive test rate of 20 percent on Thursday.

Derby had 77 average daily cases per 100,000 residents and a positive test rate of 11.90 percent between Dec. 12-25, according to the state Department of Public Health. There were 69.5 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period.

During the same periods, Shelton had 98.3 average daily cases per 100,000 residents and a positive test rate of 12.50 percent. There were 58.4 average daily cases per 100,000 among Shelton residents in the previous two-week reporting period.

It’s important to note that a few cases can have a large impact on a municipal case rate, especially for small towns.

Derby recorded 103 new coronavirus cases between Dec. 23-30, according to DPH’s preliminary data, and around 82 percent of Derby residents are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus as of Dec. 29.
