Shelton DTC: Show Us The Bus Savings

The Democratic Town Committee has filed a FOI request to see what savings if any there is after the city took over bus transportation.

SHELTON, CT — The Shelton Democratic Town Committee has filed a Freedom of Information Act request to see if there is a cost savings after schools switched over to a city-run transportation system.

The request was filed Nov. 25, but to date information hasn't been turned over, DTC Chairman David Gioiello told the Shelton Herald.

The city and Board of Education went to court in 2018 after the Board of Education signed a busing contract with Durham School Services. The two sides settled and agreed to let the city take over busing services for the district for the 2019-2020 school year.

Mayor Mark Lauretti said the city could save $1 million by directly providing busing services instead of relying on a third party.

School was supposed to start Sept. 3, but was delayed a day due to busing issues.
