Shelton High Graduate Among 2026 CT Women's Basketball Hall Of Fame Inductees

The Connecticut Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Committee has announced its 2026 class of inductees.

SHELTON, CT — The Connecticut Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Committee recently announced its 2026 class of inductees, including a graduate of Shelton High School.

According to a news release provided by the CT Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, Laura Scinto will be inducted this year in the "High School Player" category.

A 1985 Shelton High School graduate, Scinto poured in 1,338 career points, the second most in Gaels' history, and became the most decorated Shelton athlete, according to the release.

She became the first to graduate with 12 varsity letters while playing soccer, basketball and softball and was inducted into the school hall of fame in 2021, according to the release.

On the hard court, Scinto helped lead the Gaels to the 1985 Housatonic League title and later the CIAC Class LL state crown, according to the release.

While at Bryant University, the guard eclipsed 1,175 points and led the Bulldogs to three NCAA appearances, the release notes.

Scinto has had a successful assistant coaching career at Seymour High, Southern Connecticut State University and Fairfield University, according to the release.

According to the release, Scinto helped guide the team at Seymour to two state titles in 1997 and 1998 and a NCAA Division II national title in 2007 while at Southern, and a MAAC championship at Fairfield in 2022.

She has moved onto college administration as a compliance director at the University of Bridgeport, the release notes.

The 37th Annual Connecticut Women's Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony and luncheon will be held April 26 at the Aqua Turf Club, located at 556 Mulberry Street in Plantsville.

According to the release, the Hall of Fame "honors those who have contributed to the enhancement of women’s basketball in Connecticut -- either through participation, through service, through support, or through achievement.
