SHELTON, CT — Shelton High School ranked in the top 120 for Niche's annual best Connecticut public high schools list.

Shelton High School ranked 107th. Its overall Niche grade was an B. It got an B+ for academics and diversity, a B for college prep, a C+ for teachers, a C for clubs/activities and a C- for administration.

Staples High School in Westport ranked first in Connecticut for public high schools and 144th in the country. New Canaan High School ranked second and Darien High came in third.

Academy of Our Lady of Mercy - Lauralton Hall ranked third for best Catholic high schools in Connecticut and sixth for all-girls high school in the state. It ranked 31st for best private high school in the state.

Niche said its rankings differ from others that rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance in that it also includes input from students, alumni and parents, as well as quantitative data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities.

Niche said its rankings were created to provide families with valuable information — both quantitative and qualitative — on schools in their area or in a neighborhood they’re not familiar with yet.

As in previous years, the Best Schools rankings include categories for boarding, charter and magnet schools as well as schools for STEM and the arts among many others.
