Shelton High School March 14 Walkout Details

Students, administrators and police worked together to plan the walkout.

SHELTON, CT — Shelton High School students are preparing for a 17-minute walkout March 14 in response to the Parkland, Fla. high school shooting that left 17 dead.

Students will be able to participate by leaving their scheduled "advisory session." The planned walkout is being led by the student council at the school.

"The primary focus is to express solidarity with other students around the country and to speak together as a strong voice," said Superintendent of Schools Christopher Clouet. "These students have a variety of ideas about possible solutions to the problem of shootings in schools, but the March 14th event is not a rally to propose policy."

"I met with the Student Council. I was impressed by their earnest desire to be part of this national moment," Clouet said. "I was pleased to hear them grapple with the complexity of the situation and their realization that the many students at SHS have a variety of viewpoints on the issue of schools shootings and how to respond."
