Shelton Man Accused Of Distributing Illegal Narcotics Arrested: Police

SHELTON, CT — A Shelton man accused of distributing illegal narcotics throughout the greater Valley area was recently arrested, according to state police.

In a news release, state police said various law enforcement agencies, including the Statewide Narcotics Task Force Southwest Office, Shelton police, the Statewide Urban Violence Cooperative Crime Control Task Force, the state police Violent Crime Task Force's Bridgeport office and the Drug Enforcement Administration's New Haven district office, executed a search warrant at a Cliff Street residence Tuesday around 8 a.m.

According to state police, the warrant was based on a SNTF-SW narcotics investigation that indicated Carlos Baez Jr., 28, was distributing illegal narcotics throughout the greater Valley area.

As a result, detectives and task force officers seized approximately 580 grams of suspected fentanyl, approximately 0.1 gram of suspected cocaine, narcotics packaging materials, cash, ammunition and two illegal firearms, one of which was identified as stolen, according to state police.

Baez was arrested and processed at Connecticut State Police Troop G on charges of sale of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school/housing/day care, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, three counts of criminal possession of a firearm/ammunition, violation of deadly weapon registration requirements, stealing a firearm and operation of a drug factory.

Baez is currently on parole and has been remanded to the custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections pending his arraignment, which was scheduled for Wednesday, state police said.

According to state police, this arrest is part of a continued collaborative effort by law enforcement to disrupt those who are involved in the distribution of illegal opioids.
