SHELTON, CT — A Shelton police officer was recently added to the department's Traffic Division, bringing a wealth of knowledge with him to the position, according to police.

In a Facebook post Thursday, police said Officer John Kekac joins the unit after 16 years of dedicated service as a police officer in Shelton.

According to police, Kekac has served as a field training officer, was presented with a Police Officer of the Year award in the state of Connecticut and received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) award seven times.

Kekac also serves as the department's lead field sobriety test instructor, possesses seven years of experience as a drug recognition expert and has been a valued member of the accident reconstruction team for three years, police said.
