Shelton Police Warn Residents Of Recent Text Message Scam: PD

SHELTON, CT — Police warn Shelton residents not to respond to a recent text message scam.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, police provided a photo of the scam message, which includes a document that appears to be a "final enforcement notice" from the state of Connecticut.

According to police, anyone who receives a text message like this is asked not to respond to it or scan its attached QR code.

"Messages like these are often scams designed to trick you into giving away personal information," police wrote on Facebook.

Additionally, anyone who believes the message could be legitimate is asked to verify it by calling the court directly or visiting the official court website.

"Make sure you use a trusted website or phone number that you already know is accurate," police wrote, "not the contact information provided in the text."

According to police, scanning the scam message's QR code can expose the recipient to serious risks.

"Scammers may attempt to collect sensitive information such as your social security number or credit card details, install malware on your phone or access your financial accounts," police wrote.
