Shelton Republicans Decide on State Rep Candidate: UPDATE

Updated at 8:32 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016: Incumbent Jason Perillo Tuesday easily defeated challenger Ruth Parkins for the Republican nomination to run for the 113th state House of Representatives District.

According to unofficial results, Perillo received 1,054 votes, compared to Parkins' 108. Perillo's share of the vote was a commanding 90.71 percent; Parkins only obtained 9.29 percent.

Original story: SHELTON, CT — Today, Aug. 9, is primary day in Shelton, and local Republicans will decide between incumbent Jason Perillo and challenger Ruth Parkins as the party's candidate for the 113th state representative district.

The 113th state House District in Shelton covers a northern section of the city along the Housatonic River.

Perillo, state House Republican Whip, was first elected to the House in 2007. Parkins is the current chair of the Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission.

Polls will be open until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Shelton's primary is one of several held throughout the state today.
