Shelton Resident Wins Florida 'Dream Home' from HGTV

The winner, a former employee of Boy Scouts of America, and his wife were surprised at their church with the news.

SHELTON, CT - David Rennie, a Shelton resident, is the proud owner of a beautiful Florida home, a new SUV and boat, and $250,000 in cash thanks to HGTV.

Rennie won the channel's 2016 Dream Home Giveaway and was awarded a waterfront home on Merritt Island and a GMC Acadia Denali. The home and prizes come courtesy of Quicken Loans and is valued at $1.5 million.

He and his wife, Margaret, were at church on Palm Sunday when a crew from HGTV - and host Tiffany Brooks - surprised them with the news. His entry in the contest was one of more than 127,000,000.

"I entered the giveaway regularly," Rennie told HGTV. "In fact, my wife would give me grief for entering, and we were both sure nothing like this would happen to us.”

From the HGTV announcement:

David is a proud father of two daughters and former Boy Scouts of America employee. After being diagnosed with ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease), David received a kidney transplant in March 2015. "I thought I won the lottery with the kidney. That was life changing, but so is this. It’s incredible. We just never thought it could get any better."
