Shelton Businesses Invited to 'Active Shooter' Training Seminar

An OSHA specialist and local law enforcement officers will instruct attendees on what to do in the event of an active shooter.

The Greater Valley Chamber Of Commerce is hosting an OSHA Seminar: Workplace Violence & Active Shooter Training, on Friday, April 01, 2016 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at 10 Progress Drive 2nd Floor, Shelton.

The workplace is intended to train workers in the event of workplace violence. According to the Chamber, “Workplace violence accounted for 16 percent of all work-related fatal occupational injuries in 2014 and according to FBI estimates 40 percent of all active shooter events took place in business settings: commercial office buildings, stores, factories and warehouses.”

Leona May, Compliance Specialist with Federal OSHA, as well as training officers from Valley area Police Departments, will instruct attendees on what to do in the event of an active shooter in the workplace.

“Many businesses have outdated response plans, or no plan at all. It is a risk every business faces, and an exposure for which many are unprepared. It has become necessary to do more than implement safety protocals; employees need to learn how to react safely when faced with a violent situation,” the Chamber wrote on their website.
