Structure Fire Breaks Out At Derby Home: FD

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire on the house's second floor porch, according to Derby fire officials.

DERBY, CT — Crews extinguished a structure fire that broke out Monday morning at a home in Derby, according to fire officials.

In a Facebook post, fire officials said crews were called to a home on Maple Avenue around 9 a.m. after receiving a report of a working structure fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire on the house's second floor porch, which was quickly spreading to the attic, fire officials said.

Firefighters gained entry through the front of the house and searched inside but did not find any occupants. Two residents were able to escape the house prior to firefighters arriving after hearing their smoke alarms go off, fire officials said.

Additional crews extinguished the fire on the porch. Mutual aid and rapid intervention teams were also dispatched from Ansonia, Orange, Seymour and Shelton, fire officials said.
