SIMSBURY, CT — State officials recently announced some funding hikes for Connecticut towns and cities, with Simsbury benefiting in the process.
Gov. Ned Lamont last week released a town-by-town breakdown of increased state funding for school districts and municipalities under the fiscal year 2027 budget adjustment bill approved by the Connecticut General Assembly.
For Simsbury, it meant an additional $407,895 in total aid, with $330,950 of that earmarked for education and $76,945 for supplemental town aid.
The legislation, which passed with bipartisan support, is intended to help close gaps in local school and municipal budgets without requiring property tax increases, according to the governor’s office.
The funding is targeted at financial shortfalls affecting classrooms and local services.
“By closing funding gaps for our schools and municipalities, we can help communities avoid raising property taxes while keeping classrooms running and local services strong,” Lamont said. “Affordability is a top priority for this administration, and this investment delivers real relief where people feel it most.”
Lamont also credited legislative leaders, along with members of both parties, for advancing the measure.
State officials said the additional funding is designed to give municipalities flexibility to stabilize or potentially reduce local mill rates, responding to concerns about rising costs voiced by residents and local leaders.
