SIMSBURY, CT — The Town of Simsbury will mark the start of Pride Month with a Pride Flag Raising Ceremony at Simsbury Town Hall on Monday, June 1.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Simsbury Town Hall, located at 933 Hopmeadow St., and will be followed by a Pride Picnic at the Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow St.
According to the town, the picnic is being organized by the Simsbury Department of Community and Social Services and will feature live music, food, and yard games.
Town officials are inviting residents to attend both events as part of the community's recognition of Pride Month.
The flag-raising ceremony and picnic are open to the public.
Pride Month is an annual observance celebrated in June dedicated to uplifting, celebrating, and recognizing the contributions of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) community.
It commemorates the ongoing fight for civil rights and the historic 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City.
