Simsbury dog owners can renew or obtain dog licenses through the town clerk's office.

Town officials announced that licensing and renewals began June 1.

Residents who licensed their dogs last year are expected to receive yellow reminder postcards by mail.

Under Connecticut law, dogs 6 months of age and older must be licensed annually. Licenses are valid from July 1 through June 30 of the following year.

The licensing fee is $8 for spayed or neutered dogs and $19 for unaltered dogs. A late fee of $1 per month per dog will be added to licenses renewed after June 30.

To qualify for the reduced fee, owners licensing a dog for the first time must provide proof that the animal has been spayed or neutered.

All dogs must also have a current rabies vaccination.

New licenses and renewals can be completed by mail, in person at Simsbury Town Hall, or through the drop box outside the main entrance.

Renewal applications may also be submitted online in June for eligible dog owners who received a 2026 reminder postcard and have a rabies certificate valid through July 1.

Residents registering a dog for the first time must submit a completed application, proof of rabies vaccination, documentation showing spay or neuter status if applicable, payment, and a self-addressed stamped envelope if applying by mail or drop box.

Town officials noted that online renewals require payment by electronic check or credit card.

Credit card transactions are subject to a convenience fee charged by the online payment vendor.

Applications and additional information are available through the Simsbury Town Clerk's Office and on the town's website.

Dog licenses may be obtained by mail through the Simsbury Town Clerk's Office at 933 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT 06070, or in person during regular business hours.
