The Simsbury Public Library Friends spring trip participants traveled to Bristol, RI to visit Blithewold Manor, Gardens, and Arboretum. The manor house was built in the very early 1900s and is currently on the National Register of Historic Houses.
Committee Chairs, Anne Erickson and Jill Perreault report that the weather was beautiful with views of the spectacular Narragansett Bay beyond the expansive lawn leading down to the water. Participants enjoyed a lovely buffet lunch outside in a covered stone house near the water as sailboats floated by.
After lunch, a docent-led tour of the Blithewold gardens began winding around ancient trees and the historic manor. At the end of the tour a visit to the gift shop was enjoyed by all.
Another trip is planned for the fall. Information may be found in the autumn edition of the Doorway Newsletter as well as on the Friends' website and on Facebook. The trips fill up quickly so everyone is encouraged to return the reservation as soon as possible.
