Recent Death Notices From Simsbury

SIMSBURY, CT — Simsbury death notices as of Sept. 11, 2026:

• Gianni Franco Zunino, 85, died June 24. He spent his career in the insurance industry, retiring in 2000 as vice president of risk management at Marsh & McLennan after beginning at Johnson & Higgins. Born in Ormea, Italy, he moved to Connecticut in 1981 and was active in the Connecticut Senior Golf Association and the Connecticut Classical Guitar Society. He is survived by his wife, Christine, three children, and five grandchildren.

• Shirley Mae Crane (Hurrell), 94, died June 24. A more than 50-year Simsbury resident, she was active in Simsbury United Methodist Church's Rachel Circle and bell choir and belonged to the Simsbury Women's Club and Encore Club. She is survived by three children, several grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

• Ronald Robert Daigle, 81, died June 17. A professor of economics at Central Connecticut State University for more than 30 years, he served as department chair and director of the Connecticut Center for Economic Education and led a three-year USAID initiative training educators in Poland. He served two years in the U.S. Army, including a posting in Frankfurt, Germany. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine, three children, and five grandchildren.

• Ann Houlihan Bonyun, 87, died June 6. She grew up on a farm outside Philadelphia, attended Holy Child Academy in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania, and earned an associate degree from Cabrini College. A member of St. Mary's Church in Simsbury for nearly 60 years, she was known as a devoted hockey and soccer mom and a supporter of UConn women's sports. She is survived by two sons and two grandsons.

• Nancy Jacqueline Wilks Fossum, 90, died June 5. She served as executive director of Simsbury's Housing Authority for 20 years, managing the Owen Murphy Apartments and helping develop the Virginia Connolly Residence, and was named a Simsbury Hometown Hero in 1991. A Brooklyn native, she settled in Simsbury in 1966 and volunteered with Trinity Episcopal Church in Tariffville. She is survived by three children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

• Elizabeth Garrett Gardiner, 92, died June 3. A potter for more than 40 years, she opened the Pottery Spectrum studio at the Farmington Valley Arts Center and worked at McLean Home in Simsbury for 20 years, bringing programs and books to residents. She was a member of the Sundown Ski Patrol for 10 years. She is survived by a daughter, a son, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
