New Simsbury Fire Training Building Approved By Zoning Board

SIMSBURY, CT — The Simsbury Zoning Commission has unanimously approved plans for a new fire training building on Hopmeadow Street.

The commission voted 6-0 at its Sept. 9 meeting to grant the Simsbury Fire District a special exception to construct an approximately 1,400-square-foot training building at 251 Hopmeadow St.

The property is in the town's R-40 residential zoning district.

Simsbury Assistant Town Planner Brittany MacGilpin provided commissioners with an overview of the proposal during a public hearing.

Simsbury Fire District staff also provided information about the project and answered questions from commissioners.

Commissioner Tucker Salls then moved to close the public hearing, with Commissioner Jackie Battos seconding the motion. It passed unanimously.

Commissioner Kate Beal subsequently moved to approve the special exception, with Battos seconding.

The approval includes two conditions.

One is that the project must be developed in substantial conformance with application materials dated July 14, and the second condition is that all required building and zoning permits must be obtained before construction begins.

The commission approved the application 6-0.

The Simsbury Fire District owns the property, with Matthew Pearce listed as the applicant.
