The Simsbury boys and girls basketball teams played games against New Britain and Northwest Catholic this week, with similar results. Both teams eeked out close wins against the Golden Hurricanes on Monday night.
For the girls though it was a thriller as senior co-captain Taylor Perry drained a 3 pointer at the buzzer to give the Trojans (6-5) a 48-47 win. It was another strong game for sophomore Allie Davis who notched yet another double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Perry had 11 points overall to go along with 3 assists. Nicky Rounseville added 10 points and 7 rebounds.
Last night was a bit of a different story though as Simsbury was on the losing end in a close contest falling 58-53 to Northwest Catholic. Davis had a monster game pouring in a team high 27 points and adding 14 rebounds. Perry chipped in with 14 points and freshman Katie Martensen had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Despite the setback, first year head coach Jessica Baker was pleased with her team's effort, "Overall, this was a great week for us. We played very well as a team and the girls are working very hard."

The boys also won a close contest against New Britain 61-57 on Monday before losing in resounding fashion to perennial power Northwest Catholic last night 68-34. The Trojans (6-3) fell behind to the Indians 13-0 in the first quarter and never re-gained their footing.
Simsbury's struggles on the wrestling mat continued Wednesday as they were manhandled by Southington 48-16. Ben Durst, Brad Helmkamp, John DePasquale, and Ed Novak were the bright spots for the Trojans as all 4 won their matches. Helmkamp by pin, the others won by decision.
