Artsonia “Artist of the Week” is HJMS Eighth Grader

Earns recognition for the week of January 20–26, 2019

The Henry James Memorial School (HJMS) Art Department is proud to announce that 8th grader Jonas Schroder was selected as a winner of the “Artist of the Week” competition for the week of January 20–26 in the 7th–9th grade category. The online student exhibit space Artsonia, which HJMS utilizes to provide every art student with their own online digital portfolio, selects works of art from students all around the country in a weekly competition. In the week leading up to the competition, visitors to the Artsonia website voted on their favorite choice from their designated age group. Schroder’s artwork, entitled “Self Portrait,” received more than a thousand votes and was featured on the Artsonia website.

Schroder’s art teacher, Kirstie Arbesman, was thrilled for her student’s success. She said, “I am so excited that Jonas was recognized as artist of the week, and for him to receive over a thousand votes shows how supportive the HJ community and his family is of Artsonia!”

Schroder received a commemorative plaque and a $50 gift card to Blick Art Materials for art supplies. Arbesman was awarded a $100 gift card from Blick as well to use for classroom supplies. For more information, see Artsonia’s website.
