Auerfarm Offering Enrichment Programs Rooted in S.T.E.A.M Standards

BLOOMFIELD, CT - The 4-H Education Center at Auerfarm, just a short drive past Talcott Mountain, will continue to provide year-round enrichment programs for students in PreK through fifth grade rooted in S.T.E.A.M. and NGSS learning standards. The 120-acre farm acts as the perfect classroom to explore, create, and learn in a hands-on way.

Throughout the year Director of Education, Jonni Marshall, hosts enrichment programs rooted in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (S.T.E.A.M) learning standards. The program runs two, six-week sessions in the fall, one in the winter, and one in the spring. The Sprouts Program runs from 9:45 - 11:45am while the Afternoon Elementary Program runs from 3:30 - 5:30pm.

"Watching children learn through farm-based and outdoor education is simply inspiring. Auerfarm provides a learning environment that stimulates curiosity,” said Marshall. “I am excited for this opportunity and look forward to working with Auerfarm staff and the community to foster strong and meaningful programs."

As a leader in farm-based education for over a decade, Marshall is committed to continuing the Auerfarm legacy of agricultural education by providing these programs to connect children to the natural environment.

The program grew from concerned parents during COVID who wanted a place where their children could learn, explore, and engage with others, safely, away from zoom classrooms and the blank video screens of their classmates. Auerfarm became a haven for fostering intellectual curiosity in a time where that was threatened.

Now as we emerge into a more post-COVID world, Auerfarm hopes that the enrichment programs will continue to foster that curiosity and passion for learning while connecting children to the natural environment.

The farm was founded in the early 20th century and was honored as a model farm in 1950. Today’s 120-acre 4-H Education Center at Auerfarm, located in the southwest section of Bloomfield, Connecticut wasdeeded to the non-profit Connecticut 4-H Development Fund, Inc. in 1976. Known as ‘Auerfarm’, the farm’s mission is to inspire children and adults to engage in, learn about, and enjoy agriculture, science, and the natural environment.
