Basketball, Hockey Update for Simsbury High School

A look at the postseason possibilities for Trojans basketball and ice hockey.

As regular season play on the ice and hardcourt enters its final weeks, three Simsbury High School basketball and ice hockey teams have already qualified for state tournament competition, while a fourth is experiencing a strong season in anticipation of another state title.

Simsbury boys ice hockey currently ranks sixth in Division I with an 8-4 record. despite having its three-game winning streak snapped Saturday by Northwest Catholic. Next: home vs. East Haven, Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Boys basketball is 10-3, currently good for 13th in Class LL. The Trojans have won eight of their last nine, with each victory coming by a double-digit margin. Next: at Granby, Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Girls basketball is 8-8, which ranks them 23rd in Class LL. After a rough start, the team has won four of its last five games. Next: home vs. Southington, Friday, 7 p.m.

Looking to better last year

After the controversial finish to last year’s girls ice hockey Division I championship game (a 2-2 tie that was inexplicably halted after two overtimes), Simsbury is looking to improve on its co-champion status. The Trojans are 9-2, including 7-2 in the SCC. Next: at Amity co-op, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.
