Come for a lecture followed by a 5-mile, casual pace bike ride through Simsbury history as Larry Linonis, bicycle enthusiast and Director of Simsbury Free Bike leads us through the fascinating evolution of the native American trails from the well-worn footpaths between villages to the byways used by the early settlers of the Farmington Valley. The discussion will include a brief history of the Connecticut Colony, the Connecticut Path, and the beginnings of the very first roads and turnpikes. The 1-hour bike ride will follow a route that is part greenway and part road. We will travel through the historic district along the river on Terry's Plain and East Weatogue Street with a few brief stops. The ride will conclude at the Flower Bridge around noon. Some participants might go to a local eatery for lunch or ice cream.

Registration and requirements for this program are available at 860-658-7663 or www.simsburylibrary.info. Bring your own bike, or bikes will be provided by Simsbury Free Bike to adults who call ahead (860-658-1110) or email simsburyfreebike@gmail.com prior to the event. Rain Date: May 21.
