‘Books to Your Door’ Library Program

The ‘Books to Your Door’ program is a homebound library service which was started by the Friends of the Simsbury Public Library in 1993. It is designed to connect community members who are physically unable to visit their town library.

This program is staffed by dedicated volunteers who call the participants each week to attend to their requests for books, magazines, audio, and video library materials. The patron’s materials are bagged and delivered by volunteers. The Simsbury Public Library is one of the few libraries in Connecticut to offer this service to their community. The program also extends to requests from the care facilities in town in addition to individual homes regardless of the resident’s age.

The Friends of the Simsbury Public Library have a wonderful cadre of volunteers who serve the participants of this program. Community members who participate in this service regularly remind the volunteers how grateful they are for the phone calls and deliveries of library materials.
