Join us for a family fundraiser to help save horses featuring kids trick-or-treat from horse to horse, a costume parade at noon, and a best costume contest. Attendees can meet and hug rescue horses while enjoying warm cider, popcorn, and snacks available for purchase; children 2 and under are free.

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. In this 9-week program you will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at and exercises to increase strength and balance. Who should attend?
<ul><li>Anyone concerned about falls</li><li>Anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength</li><li>Anyone who has fallen in the past</li><li>Anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns</li></ul>
Register by calling the Simsbury Senior Center at 860-658-3273. Please note that registration is for all sessions, so please plan to attend all sessions in this series.
Presented by the Farmington Valley Health District and hosted in partnership with the Simsbury Senior Center.

Join&nbsp;Maker-in-Residence, Ava Rodrigues, for an ADVANCED** Cricut T-Shirt class! It's BYOT - Bring Your Own T-Shirt. **This class is for anyone who has taken a previous T-shirt class with Ava.
Ava will teach you some intermediate and advanced Cricut functions and you will walk away from class with your own t-shirt! You will create one or more designs in the software, use the Print Then Cut feature, and learn how to maximize the use of the Cricut Maker and tools.
Please bring your favorite notebook to take notes&nbsp;or we will have paper and pens for you to use to have a reference to remember your skills!
Space is limited for this class and is for Adults 18+. Please do not attend if you are not registered.
Anyone taking the class will need to&nbsp;fill out an&nbsp;Innovators’ Workshop Liability Waiver and Hold Harmless Agreement.&nbsp; You can fill out the forms before training by&nbsp;<a href="https://www.simsburylibrary.info/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/IW-Liability-Waiver-and-Hold-Harmless-Agreement-2021.pdf" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">downloading here</a>,&nbsp;or arrive early to fill out the paperwork at the start of training in the makerspace.

In this hands-on intermediate workshop, you will learn how to create a presentation using your own Brand Kit with Canva's design tools.
Classes held in the Technology Learning Center (TLC) to enable you to use Canva during the workshop!
You must have taken Canva for Business Beginners Class and/or have the equivalent experience in Canva to attend. Your Canva account should have a complete brand kit with colors, fonts, and graphics and be able to access your account on a desktop computer in the TLC.

Canva Project with Ava Rodrigues: Slide Deck or Presentation

When people think of the Cold War and nuclear missile defenses, they tend to think of large, open, rural areas in the western and midwestern states. That’s where missile silos are most often pictured and where many are situated today.
Yet, from 1956-1972, 12 anti-aircraft ballistic missile sites ringed both Bridgeport and Hartford since they had been designated as among the 40 U.S. cities deemed critically important to defend against attack.
During this period, the military strategy changed. The decision was made to switch from 12 ballistic missile sites to three Nike Hercules nuclear missile sites, with nuclear warheads stored in silos in three communities in the state. Most residents were unaware of the program. Even though many knew that military sites were in their town, they had no idea that nuclear missiles and their control facilities were housed literally in residents’ backyards in some instances.&nbsp;
Noted podcaster and public speaker Mike Allen will be discussing where these sites were located, how they functioned, and the times when we almost had to use the missiles. There will be a particular focus on Simsbury’s site.
