Champlain College, Burlington VT

  • Stephen Hill of Simsbury has been named to the Champlain College Dean's List for the spring 2018 semester. Students on the Dean's List have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during the semester. Hill is majoring in Game Programming.

St. Lawrence University, Canton NY

  • Katherine B. Angus of Weatogue was inducted into the St. Lawrence University chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society. Angus is a member of the Class of 2020 and is majoring in English. Angus attended Simsbury High School. Omicron Delta Kappa recognizes students who are successful in academics, athletics, community and campus service, the performing arts, and journalism. The members of Omicron Delta Kappa strive to promote leadership on campus.
  • Nearly 520 students received bachelor degrees from St. Lawrence University during Commencement ceremonies held on May 20 in Canton, New York. Emma M. Gailey of Simsbury majored in global studies and business in the liberal arts. Gailey received the degree of bachelor of arts cum laude. Gailey attended Cheshire Academy. Katharine G. Hovey of Simsbury majored in Hispanic studies and business in the liberal arts. Hovey received the degree of bachelor of arts cum laude. Hovey attended Westminster School. Donald T. Wheeler of Simsbury majored in economics and business in the liberal arts. Wheeler received the degree of bachelor of arts. Wheeler attended Suffield Academy.

Tunxis Community College, Farmington CT

  • Tunxis Community College held its 47th Commencement on May 30 at Central Connecticut State University. A total of 805 degrees and certificates were conferred to 645 graduates from 60 Connecticut towns as well as Massachusetts and New Jersey, and included noncredit certificates awarded through Continuing Education and Workforce Development. Simsbury residents receiving degrees and/or certificates were Sean Barrett, Samantha Betti, Mia Bezrudczyk, Valeria Bruno Montoya, Marcus Furze, Kyle Greene, Andrew Hecht, Elizabeth Mauro, Daniel Salvatore, Jack Tanski, Emily Tuller and Ryan Weiss.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • The WPI athletic department recently honored all of its 20 varsity teams, which encompasses over 600 student-athletes, at its annual awards banquet. During the festivities, 11 student-athletes were presented with major awards. These accolades highlight some of the best varsity student-athletes at WPI who excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports. Megan Hanshaw of Weatogue received the Ray Cherenzia '73 Unsung Hero Award for women's soccer, presented to a member of each varsity team that exemplifies the spirit of an "Unsung Hero" - who works hard every day, puts the team first over their personal goals, who does the little things without much recognition, yet are vital to their team's success in competition, in the classroom and in the community.
