Assumption College, Worcester MA

  • The Assumption College Department of Athletics has announced that Katherine Eckerson, of Simsbury, has earned a spot on the 2017-18 Assumption College women's track and field team. Eckerson, Class of 2021, will compete during the Greyhounds' indoor season this winter, which began in early December, and the outdoor season, which opens on March 23 at for the Bridgewater State University Bears invitational.

  • Juliet Elisabeth Clarkson of West Simsbury, a senior majoring in biology, was named a Presidential Scholar for the fall 2017 semester at Clarkson University. Presidential Scholars must achieve a minimum 3.80 grade-point average and carry at least 14 credit hours.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy NY

  • Matthew Gutierrez of Simsbury is a member of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's track & field team and has helped the Engineers through the first three meets of the season.

  • Tunxis Community College in Farmington has announced the names of those students who have qualified for the Dean’s List for the fall 2017 semester. Students matriculated in a certificate or degree program who have earned a semester grade point average of 3.4 or higher and have successfully completed 12 or more credits, or have earned 12 credits cumulatively over multiple semesters, are eligible for this academic honor. Simsbury honorees are Rohit Chonk, Connor Garceau, Alison Gentile, Rebekah Heath, Andrew Hecht, Morgan Reich, Alex Rybczyk and John Simpson.

University of New Hampshire, Durham NH

  • A pair of students from Simsbury have been named to the Dean's List at the University of New Hampshire for the fall 2017 semester: John Eklund, High Honors; and Maggie Grigely, Highest Honors. Students named to the Dean's List at the University of New Hampshire are students who have earned recognition through their superior scholastic performance during a semester enrolled in a full-time course load (12 or more graded credits). Highest honors are awarded to students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.85 or better out of a possible 4.0. Students with a 3.65 to 3.84 average are awarded high honors and students whose grade point average is 3.5 through 3.64 are awarded honors.
