SIMSBURY, CT — The town's committee charged with Simsbury's events celebrating the country's 250th birthday this year has unveiled a calendar of events for 2026, so mark your calendars now.

Simsbury joins cities and towns across Connecticut and the United States in planning events and activities to commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The Simsbury 250th Celebration Committee announces several events and activities, culminating in a parade scheduled to take place on July 11.

“Simsbury played a noteworthy role in the history of the American Revolution due to the involvement and sacrifices of its residents,” said Bob Moody, co-chair of the committee. “It’s an exciting time for us to recognize the local people, places, and events that contributed to our country’s independence.”

Scheduled activities include:

● Live reading of the Declaration of Independence, Feb. 19
● Play honoring Revolutionary women, March 6 - 8
● Revolutionary War encampment and re-enactment, April 25
● Evening gala at Metro Bis, April 26
● Simsbury Community Band concert, July 8
● Parade, July 11

Simsbury 250 consists of representatives from several community groups, including the Abigail Phelps Chapter DAR, American Legion Tomolonis-Hall Post 84, Simsbury Free Library, and Simsbury Historical Society, Simsbury VFW Post 1926, Simsbury High School, Simsbury Main Street Partnership, Tariffville Village Association, and Simsbury Board of Selectmen, among others.

Plans are being coordinated in conjunction with resident volunteers, local businesses, community groups, nearby towns, and the State of Connecticut commission, leading celebratory efforts, CT250.

To fund programs and events, the committee welcomes donations, and business sponsors will be recognized on the Simsbury 250 website.
