Chelsea Knox, flutist, returns to the Hartt Community Division as guest soloist with the Connecticut Youth Symphony

Chelsea Knox, principal flutist of the New Haven and Princeton Symphonies, returns to West Hartford next month to perform Mozart’s first flute concerto with the Connecticut Youth Symphony. The performance takes place on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at 3 PM. It will be held in Millard Auditorium at the University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117. Admission is $8.00 for adults, $6.00 for students and seniors, and $4.00 for children age 12 and under. Chelsea Knox is currently the principal flutist of the New Haven and Princeton Symphonies.  In addition she is a member of the IRIS Orchestra in Germantown, TN and the ETA3 Trio managed by Manhattan Music Ensemble.

A student of Jeffrey Khaner, Ms. Knox earned both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Juilliard School in New York City.  A native of Litchfield, CT she received her early training at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT as a student of Greig Shearer.  An active soloist, orchestral and chamber musician, Ms. Knox has performed around the world with ensembles such as the Juilliard Orchestra, the San Diego Symphony, the Vancouver Symphony and the New Jersey Philharmonic.  

 

Ms. Knox has been the winner of numerous competitions including the New York Flute Club Young Artists Competition and the Hartford Symphony Young Artists Competition.  She has performed concertos with the Hartford Symphony, Manchester (CT) Symphony, Juilliard Lab Orchestra, and Connecticut Youth Symphony.

 

A versatile musician, Ms. Knox is also comfortable in the worlds of new music, historical performance, jazz, rock, and celtic music.  She plays many different styles of flutes including traverso, celtic flute, crystal flute, ocarina, and penny whistle.  In 2012 she recorded a solo ocarina album, "Winds of Time: An Ocarina Mosaic", and she is featured in the electronic music of Kronodigger.  In addition to music Ms. Knox is also an active visual artist.  Her work has been shown in exhibits in Connecticut and New York.  For more information, please visit www.chelseaknox.com
