The child was rushed to the hospital Sunday afternoon, according to police.

SIMSBURY, CT — Police are investigating a vehicle/pedestrian accident in which a 10-year-old child was struck crossing the street at a local intersection Sunday afternoon.

The Simsbury Police Department said Sunday the accident happened at about 3:40 p.m. near the intersection of Elm and Church streets in the Tariffville section of town.

Police said a 10-year-old pedestrian was crossing the roadway on Elm Street in a crosswalk and collided with a vehicle traveling east on the road.

The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped to aid the stricken child, police said.

According to the SPD, the child appeared to have sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.

The victim, according to police, was subsequently taken to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford for further evaluation and treatment, while the driver was not injured.

"This accident is currently under investigation and further details may be released as they become available," wrote the SPD.
