College Notes - Simsbury Students

SIMSBURY, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Bates College, Lewiston ME

• Daniel Sparks, of Simsbury, graduated after majoring in sociology and psychology at Bates. Sparks is a 2014 graduate of Simsbury High School. Bates College graduated 473 students from 39 states and 42 countries on May 27, 2018. Cumulatively, the Class of 2018 performed 82,000 hours of community service, exemplifying Bates' commitment to community learning and civic action.

Western New England University, Springfield MA

• Madeline Mancarella, of Simsbury, had the opportunity to spend some time in Italy this summer as part of a three week study abroad experience in conjunction with the Sant'Anna Institute in Sorrento. Mancarella, along with twenty-one fellow Western New England University students from fifteen different majors, took two classes, Italian Cultures and Covering Italy. Students were immersed in the local culture, studied and reported on the country's rich history and contemporary culture, toured the beautiful Amalfi Coast and the Pompeii Ruins while learning about the Italian food and wine industry. Mancarella is working toward a degree in Communication with a concentration in Media Theory and Production.
