Bates College, Lewiston ME

  • Claire Sickinger of Simsbury was named to the dean's list at Bates College for the fall semester ending in December 2018. This is a distinction earned by students whose cumulative grade point average is 3.77 or higher. Sickinger, the daughter of Mr. William T. and Dr. Pamela H. Sickinger, is a 2015 graduate of Simsbury High School. She is a senior at Bates majoring in dance and environmental studies.

Colby College, Waterville ME

  • Cassidy E. Correll of West Simsbury was recently named to the highly selective Dean's List at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, for outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2018-19 academic year. Correll is one of 538 Colby students - or 26 percent of the qualified student body - to qualify for the Dean's List last semester. Correll, a member of the Class of 2022, attended Simsbury High School and is the daughter of Daniel and Marjorie Correll. Correll earned a semester grade point average of 3.77 or higher last fall to be included on Colby's Dean's List.

Purchase College-SUNY, Purchase NY

  • Abigail Lang of Simsbury has been named to Purchase College's Dean's List for the fall 2018 semester. Lang is studying Film, Language and Culture. To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must carry a semester GPA of 3.5 for Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs and 3.75 for Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Music Performance programs. They must take a minimum of 12 credits.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • A pair of Simsbury residents were among students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) who recently completed intense, hands-on research projects. Caleb Ralphs, a member of the class of 2020 majoring in computer science, was a member of a student team that completed a project through the WPI project center in Cape Town, South Africa. The project was titled Perception of Housing Adequacy: A case study of the La Rochelle temporary relocation area in Stellenbosch, South Africa. In their project summary, the students wrote, "This project assisted the Stellenbosch Municipality to understand the housing desires of one temporary community, La Rochelle, whose members declined a resettlement offer." Thomas Kim, a member of the class of 2020 majoring in robotics engineering and mechanical engineering, was a member of a student team that completed a project through the WPI project center in Worcester, England. The project was titled Skills for Tomorrow: Hereford Student Conference. In their project summary, the students wrote, "This project sought to modify a version of the conference for Hereford students."
