Dress up fun at the Pumpkinhead Regatta

The Simsbury Crew competed in their final regatta of the fall season this past Saturday, November 2. They made the short trip to Farmington to compete against other local high schools in the much anticipated 13th annual Pumpkinhead regatta, which is hosted by Farmington Crew . All school teams celebrate the end of the fall season with some friendly competition, with each boat adopting themed costumes as they race the course on the Farmington River.

The boys 1st Varsity boat were dressed as Batman and achieved 3rd place. The boys 2nd Varsity boat were rowed by pirates who stole 2nd place, by mere milliseconds. The boys 1st Novice boat, dressed in an American theme and rowed to victory, claiming 1st place. The boys 2nd Novice boat all dressed ready for Christmas and came 5th place.

The girls first Varsity boat, all dressed as Disney princesses and came out victorious, snatching 1st place. The girls 2nd Varsity boat, dressed to represent a variety of holidays, came in the 2nd spot. The girls 1st Novice were dressed in various characters from Alice in Wonderland, and claimed 2nd place. Finally, the girls 2nd Novice boat, all dressed as bugs, came 5th spot.

Athletes and coaches will now be swapping their oars for rakes. They will be spending the next 2 weeks raking and clearing leaves in local gardens, as a form of fundraising for the team. Athletes will also take the winter off and spend the time maintaining their fitness levels in order to be fully prepared for the start of the spring season.
